Shirou Kamui was born in Tokyo, to one of the Magami Clan, his mother, Tohru. His first and best friends were Kotori and Fuuma. After Fuuma's mother died, however, Kamui and his mother moved to Okinawa, Japan.

At Okinawa, Kamui was alone, and some people thought he was a monster because of the huge power he possessed. As he grew older, he sometimes got into fights. One day, he returned home to find his house on fire.

When he looked closer, he saw his mother burning in the flames. Her last words to him were "Kamui... go back to Tokyo... your destiny.. it's waiting..."

Crushed and heartbroken, Kamui goes back to Tokyo. On his first day of school, he is attacked by demons/birds (actually shikigami) before he can get to school. When he arrives, Kotori happily greets him, but he tells her to forget about him and leave, not wanting her to be involved in the Battle of the Apocalypse.

After realizing (FINALLY) that without the world, there would be no Fuuma or Kotori, Kamui chooses to become one of the Ten no Ryu (Dragons of Heaven) and save the world. Unfortunately, Fuuma becomes one of the Chi no Ryu and kills Kotori. Kamui's wish is now for Fuuma to return back to his normal state.

In the weeks leading up to the Final Battle, Kamui befriends Sumeragi Subaru. The two share deep angsty pasts; Kamui with Fuuma and Subaru with Sakurazuka Seishirou. However, after Seishirou's death, Subaru becomes one of the Chi no Ryu (and the Sakurazukamori), leaving Kamui in the dust.

The X manga is not completed, but the X anime is. Read on to find out what happens to Kamui, and don't cry or scream at me for ruining anything.

After Hinoto's death, the seal on Kamui's Shinken is broken, so he retrieves it and goes to fight Fuuma. However, he ends up fighting Arashi, who knocks the Shinken out of his hand. Just as she is about to kill him, however, Sorata comes in and stops her. When Sorata sacrifices himself for a horrorstricken Arashi, Kamui screams in anguish, having lost yet another person whom he cared about.

Later, when he goes back to fight Fuuma once more, Kamui realizes how to make his wish come true. He does not resist when Fuuma drives the Chi no Ryu's Shinken through Kamui's heart. He touches Fuuma's heart, then tells him that he will live on in there; and asks Fuuma to fulfill his wish. As he says these words, he finally truly awakens, and his gigantic Kekkai (in the form of a sphere) spreads and covers the Earth, saving it.

However, in the process (you just don't live when you've been stabbed in the heart), he passes away. He does, however, save the world, so nobody really cares except his rabid fangirls and Fuuma.
